Ponoko

Ponoko enables you to bring your designs to life! Just jot a design down with a marker pen on some paper, photograph it, upload it, and it’ll arrive at your doorstep in the next few days in the flesh. I am very impressed with the whole concept.

Ponoko Concept

I stumbled upon Ponoko while trawling through various trend websites, and it looks like it could be quite a phenomenom. Quite a lot has been made in the past couple of years about the whole ‘Web 2.0’ scene, user generated content, blogs, social networking, the lot, but now this seems a limited way to interact with the web. With Ponoko, if you can draw it, they can make it!

Ponoko examples

YouTube is notorious for its community, where users can create video blogs/journals interacting with each other, responding to each others videos. This is the next step. Already Ponoko’s ever-increasing multiples of users have been sharing and even selling their designs. The budding product designer’s creations vary wildly including jewellery, coasters, book marks, even furniture!

Ponoko has been around for a while and already has a thriving online community, but their whole ‘Photomake’ concept has only recently gone live, making the whole concept even more appealing to those that don’t have experience or interest in vector drawing, but would still like to get involved. All you need is a marker pen and a digital camera!
